The Lighthouse of La Coubre
With its slender, white and red silhouette, it
is 60 metres high and is one of the most powerful lighthouses in France
with a range of more than 50 km.
The present lighthouse of La Coubre dates back
from 1905.
It was built 2 km away from the sea and set back 1.5 km from
the previous lighthouse, which collapsed due to erosion.
Today, it is
only a few hundred metres away from the shore.

A magnificent panorama
Having climbed the 300 steps up the spiral
staircase which adjoins the internal wall, covered with blue opaline,
one is rewarded by a magnificent panorama on the peninsula of Arvert,
the Côte Sauvage, the island of Oléron and the peninsula of
Bonne Anse … |
