The Lighthouse of La Coubre

With its slender, white and red silhouette, it is 60 metres high and is one of the most powerful lighthouses in France with a range of more than 50 km.

The present lighthouse of La Coubre dates back from 1905.

It was built 2 km away from the sea and set back 1.5 km from the previous lighthouse, which collapsed due to erosion.

Today, it is only a few hundred metres away from the shore.

A magnificent panorama

Having climbed the 300 steps up the spiral staircase which adjoins the internal wall, covered with blue opaline, one is rewarded by a magnificent panorama on the peninsula of Arvert, the Côte Sauvage, the island of Oléron and the peninsula of Bonne Anse
